Clean Water Wednesday with ICGA's Greg Wandrey & SE IA Farmer Amanda Drost

Iowa Corn Growers Association Director of Sustainability Greg Wandrey talks about some resources Iowa Corn has to help clear up confusion around ag carbon markets and ways they work with farmers to promote soil health. Mahaska County Angus Producer Amanda Drost tells us about her and her husband's operation and the cover crops they have been planting over the past decade-plus. She says it's been a learning process every year. She also points out how getting clean water practices in place can make passage of the farm to the next generation more attractive.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach field agronomist Clarabell Probasco says they have enjoyed large amounts of rainfall to help with drought in her area of Southeast Iowa. Discusses the wait for planting to begin in 2024. She also tells us that alfalfa weevils are causing a lot of havoc in the area.

Doug Hensley from Hertz Farm Management discusses what he's seen in his travel across the Midwest for planting progress and how he's seeing land prices move as focus shifts to planting in the Midwest. Brian Hoops from Midwest Market Solutions has our closing report on the markets and tells us what he's seeing for rainfall near his offices in Springfield, MO and in his hometown of Storm Lake.

Iowa State University Extension field crop entomology specialist Ashley Dean joins us to talk about the results from today's black cutworm moth mp and says "we've seen more moths in April than I've seen in [her] time doing this." Brian Hoops from Midwest Market Solutions is handling market analysis duties today with grains mostly in the green. ISU Extension's Steve Freeman talks with David about the best practices for staying safe on Iowa roadways with farm equipment and haulers.

IBIC Executive Director Mike Anderson talks about the significance of May beef Month and promoting the product to consumers heading into summer grilling months. Iowa Cattlemen CEO Bryan Whaley echos Mike's thoughts and talks about the hard work of beef producers across the state.
